FEDERICO GORI | IL SUONO DEL CARBONE
(Metilene Edizioni, 2025)
Born from a project conceived by Federico Gori and curated by Lorenzo Madaro, Il suono del carbone is inspired by the ancient work of charcoal burners in the Pistoia area and by the deep bond between the city and its surrounding mountains. The volume brings together images of the works and a series of in-depth texts that trace all phases of the project’s conception and realization, offering a close reading of its two core works: Carbonaia (Carbon Mound), created for the Giardino del Carbonile, and Macchina sonora (Sound Machine), which reproduces the sounds and noises of ancient charcoal kilns and is now part of the permanent collection of the Museo del Novecento e del Contemporaneo di Palazzo Fabroni, Pistoia.Together, these works transform memory, matter, and landscape into a sensory experience. The book also documents the collaboration with Andrea Michelozzi and master organ builder Samuele Maffucci. Il suono del carbone marks Gori’s return to the museum of the city where he lives and works, offering an essential and in-depth insight into his artistic research.
