The sound work QUELLO CHE LE MANI NON SANNO (What the Hands Do Not Know) takes as its starting point a technical question rather than a conceptual one: what happens when two bodies, separated by time and by age, interrogate the same invisible field?

The Moog Etherwave Theremin is one of the few musical instruments played without being touched: two antennas generate an electromagnetic field that the body, moving closer or further away, modulates. There is no key to press and no string to pluck. Sound exists only insofar as the body consents to remain unsteady; a tremor, a breath, a shift of a few millimetres is enough to change its nature.

The work consists of two audio tracks in dialogue: one drawn from the artist’s body within the instrument’s electromagnetic field, the other, by the same process, from the body of his son Gabriele, aged six. Not a duet played together, but two presences answering one another across time, each filtered through a different body: a gesture already formed set against a gesture still searching for itself. And it is precisely in this act of measurement that something is revealed which nothing can measure. The bond between a father and a son is, by its very nature, a knowledge that precedes language: it is transmitted through proximity, gesture and presence, before it can be understood by those who live it. It is a relationship built without either of them knowing, at any given moment, what is building it, and it is from this condition that the work’s title arises.

It is a dialogue that can never be repeated in the same form. The two bodies will change, and with them the way in which they interrupt that field. The recording is not a neutral document but the cast of a moment already rendered unrepeatable at the very instant it was fixed. In this gap, the work situates its idea of fragility: not as weakness, but as the structural condition of every relationship measured over time.
